I just loaded a new playlist on 8tracks. The kind of playlist that will help get you moving on those cold winter mornings. Enjoy!
This is Brandon and I on November 11th enjoying an amazing sunset. Come learn tricks like these at our Acro Yoga Jam and Social.
Join us on Friday November 21st at One Yoga Victoria for the November Acro Yoga Jam & Social. The jam starts at 8:30pm and goes until 10:00pm and there is a $5 drop-in fee. I will guide everyone through about 15-20 minutes of flow to get you in your body and connected to your breath. From then it will be jam time where you can either take control and get practicing with some new friends or I will cover the basics and provide some examples of some poses and transitions to try. No partner necessary. Come meet some new friends and learn some new tricks. We will most likely head over to the Bent Mast for some social time afterwards for those who are interested. Maximum capacity is 35 people so arrive early to get a spot.
For the soup
One small butternut squash, peeled, seeded and cubed (save the seeds!)
One small winter squash, peeled, seeded and cubed (save the seeds!)- I used a carnival squash
One medium yellow onion, chopped for roasting
Three tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (divided)
I just added a new playlist to my 8tracks account. Great for slowing down, yin practice and getting sleepy. Enjoy!
One large acorn squash, peeled and cubed (butternut or kabocha squash would also work great)
One large yam, peeled and cubed
Two large carrots, chopped (about 1/3-1/2 cup chopped)
Another playlist is ready for your ears on 8tracks.
I was asked by Casper Sleep (Creators of the Casper Mattress) to write about the best yoga poses to do before bed to help you sleep. Whether you struggle to fall asleep, struggle to stay asleep, or have an overactive bladder keeping you up all night, yoga can aid in finding balance so that you can find deeper rest. As we transition into fall it is especially important to get good quality sleep as the transition between seasons can result in imbalance throughout the body and with your sleep cycle.
The following yoga poses and breathing exercises can help to calm the restless mind and to stimulate areas of the body that may become imbalanced, resulting in better quality sleep. I have also included a 35 minute flow that can be done right before bed. The poses and flow are based on principles of Yin Yoga and therefore the poses are meant to be done with little to no muscular engagement and are to be held for a few minutes each. It is important to note that because you will be holding the poses for a few minutes each you should only come into the poses to a comfortable and sustainable depth. No forcing or gripping allowed. The relaxation of muscles and holding of the poses can bring a deeper relaxation to the body and a greater focus to the breath, the present moment. Although you are relaxed, you should still feel sensation that will build with time in the areas described for each pose. If you ever feel pain of any sort (sharp, piercing, shooting, electric, tingling), please come out of the pose. It is not important what the pose looks like as long as you feel comfortable and relaxed. As long as you are experiencing no pain, all of the poses described below can be held from 3 to 10 minutes, maybe even longer as it depends on each unique body.
Before beginning the practice, do your best to create a relaxing environment. Turn your TV off, put your phone on silent and far enough away you can’t see it lighting up. Put on some comfy clothes and dim the lights. Feel free to play some relaxing music, light some candles and relax. Sweet dreams ya’ll. ♥ Continue reading
I am excited to announce that I will be leading a 60 minute alignment flow class on July 5th, 2014 at 7:30pm where YOU have the chance to win a full weekend Sage Pass to Wanderlust Festival in Whistler, BC this summer. This is a FREE class taking place at the beautiful One Yoga Victoria (201-239 Menzies Street). Additional prizes include yoga passes from One Yoga Victoria, yoga gear from lululemon Victoria, and handmade jewelry from the Shanti Collective.
Wanderlust Festival is an unforgettable weekend in the mountains of Whistler, British Columbia. It is happening from July 31st- August 4, 2014. The weekend includes so many amazing teachers such as Seane Corn, Shiva Rae, Eion Finn, Ryan Leier, Natalie Rousseau, Tina James, and many more. There are also live music performances each night from bands like Tycho, Emancipator, RJD2, DJ Drez, and MC Yogi. My experience at Wanderlust last year was of hundreds of like minded individuals coming together to spread mindfulness, positivity, and positive change to the world. Expect to give a lot of hugs, eat some great food, have impromptu massage circles and dance parties and make some amazing new friends.
I hope to see you all on July 5th and later in the month at Wanderlust. Please email me with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org. Love and light friends ♥
