Lust for Wanderlust: Thank you! ♥

The Lust for Wanderlust event was a huge success on Saturday. Thank you to all of the amazing yogis who pushed through. It was a tough class and you could tell by the temperature of the room… that was all you people,  the heat was turned off!! Congratulations to our grand prize winner Meagan Welch, a local yoga teacher here in Victoria. Can’t wait to practice with you at Wanderlust Whistler this year.  Thank you to One Yoga Victoria for all your help and to Rachel Hurst of the Shanti Collective for organizing the event. We are so lucky to have such a strong yoga community in this city. Sending so much love to all of you yogis.

Here are a few photos from the evening.

Do you want to go to Wanderlust Yoga Festival in Whistler??

I am excited to announce that I will be leading a 60 minute alignment flow class on July 5th, 2014 at 7:30pm where YOU have the chance to win a full weekend Sage Pass to Wanderlust Festival in Whistler, BC this summer. This is a FREE class taking place at the beautiful One Yoga Victoria (201-239 Menzies Street). Additional prizes include yoga passes from One Yoga Victoria, yoga gear from lululemon Victoria, and handmade jewelry from the Shanti Collective.

Wanderlust Festival is an unforgettable weekend in the mountains of Whistler, British Columbia. It is happening from July 31st- August 4, 2014. The weekend includes so many amazing teachers such as Seane Corn, Shiva Rae, Eion Finn, Ryan Leier, Natalie Rousseau, Tina James, and many more. There are also live music performances each night from bands like Tycho, Emancipator, RJD2, DJ Drez, and MC Yogi. My experience at Wanderlust last year was of hundreds of like minded individuals coming together to spread mindfulness, positivity, and positive change to the world. Expect to give a lot of hugs, eat some great food, have impromptu massage circles and dance parties and make some amazing new friends.

I hope to see you all on July 5th and later in the month at Wanderlust. Please email me with any questions at katiethackeryoga@gmail.com. Love and light friends ♥

Yoga Playlist: May 3rd, 2014

Here is a screen shot of a great playlist I have been using the past few weeks. It’s just over an hour long and is on the mellow side but has a great tempo for slow controlled flow. Enjoy!

Weekly Inspirations: April 1, 2014

Hanumanasana by Domestikatie at Mt Tolmie, Victoria BC

This week Sunrise Flow led towards the peak pose of hanumanasana or splits pose. Therefore I drew my inspiration from Lord Hanuman. Lord Hanuman is a symbol of perseverance and devotion, which is exactly what is required in order to do the splits! Looking at the above photo, I probably make doing the splits look easy BUT you have to remember that I was a competitive gymnast for the majority of my life and this did not come over night. It took many years and many tears of having my coaches force me deeper in the pose with no real awareness of alignment. So although I am flexible, alignment is a bitch for me and I am most likely going to have problems in the future due to over stretching as a child. Remember that this pose takes years and years of opening the hips from all angles. Continue reading
